SENATE ENGAGES MINISTERS OF FINANCE AND EDUCATION ON SAFE SCHOOLS FUNDING
In its drive for accountability in the funding and implementation of the Safe Schools program, instituted by the Federal Government to secure educational institutions across Nigeria, the Senate on Friday engaged the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Education, Tunji Alausa, as concerns heighten over expenditure under the program.
The session, most of which was held behind closed doors, is investigating how budgetary allocations, donor contributions, and foreign grants to the program were used over a seven-year period.
The Minister of Education said the initiative is being restructured, as President Tinubu has made it clear that the security of children, teachers, and schools is non-negotiable while the Minister of Finance, emphasized that mechanisms are being put in place for enhanced funding.
