TROOPS FOIL ISWAP ABDUCTION ATTEMPT AT MONGUNO SCHOOL, RESCUE 46 STUDENTS

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass abduction by suspected ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State.

The attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on July 19, 2026, at the school facility currently being used by the Borno State Government as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the terrorists allegedly gained access to the facility with the assistance of suspected collaborators and attempted to abduct students.

The statement said alert security personnel immediately engaged the attackers with coordinated firepower, while troops of Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force swiftly reinforced the area.

Faced with fierce resistance from security operatives, the terrorists were forced to abandon the operation and flee without succeeding in their mission.

Although parts of the school infrastructure were damaged during the encounter, security forces successfully contained the attack and prevented the abduction of any student.

Following the operation, troops rescued and evacuated all 46 students to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they received medical assessment and necessary care.

The military confirmed that all rescued students were medically stable and that no student was abducted.

However, the statement disclosed that some students lost their lives after being hit by sporadic gunfire from the terrorists during the exchange of fire.

Operation HADIN KAI expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to protect lives and critical public institutions across the North-East.

The military also revealed that investigations were underway to identify and apprehend suspected collaborators, while security forces had intensified efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI and other security agencies to sustaining operations against insurgents and ensuring the safety of communities in the region.
