According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the incident occurred on 16 August 2026, when terrorists, believed to be led by suspected kingpin Mallam Shuaibu, attacked civilians travelling along a local route.
The statement says the attack may have been in reprisal for the recent arrest of suspected collaborators linked to the terrorist network.
It noted that the terrorists had concealed themselves within a millet farm and opened fire on passing vehicles, causing some drivers to lose control.
Lieutenant Colonel Danja added that troops of Sector 2 responded swiftly, engaged the terrorists and denied them the opportunity to carry out the abduction, forcing them to flee into surrounding forest.
He said nine cilivians were rescued, including an infant while two women who sustained gunshot wounds were evacuated for medical attention and are currently receiving treatment.
The Joint Task Force said Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to denying terrorists freedom to attack innocent citizens and will continue to sustain pressure to restore lasting peace across the North West region.
