TROOPS FOIL MASS ABDUCTION OF WAEC STUDENTS IN KOGI
The Nigerian Army has foiled an attempted mass abduction of students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE in Iluke Community, Bunu District of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A statement by the acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army says the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 10 June 2026, when armed bandits disguised in military uniforms invaded the community.
During the attack, the criminals disrupted an ongoing WAEC examination, marching some of students towards a nearby forest in an attempt to abduct them.
Acting on distress calls from residents, troops mobilized and responded to the scene in conjunction with other security agencies and local security operatives, resulted in a firefight, forcing them to abandon their criminal mission.
The students were successfully rescued unharmed and reunited with their families, one of the terrorists was eliminated during the engagement, while others escaped into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds.
Three members of the community lost their lives during the attack before the arrival of security forces.
