Trump Commends Nigeria’s Anti-Terror War, FG Seeks Deeper US Security Partnership

The Federal Government has described a letter from United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a strong endorsement of Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism and other security threats across the country.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, stated this during a live interview on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), saying the correspondence reflects international recognition of the sacrifices and achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies.

According to the minister, the letter goes beyond mere commendation and signals a renewed commitment by the United States to support Nigeria’s security architecture.

He explained that the development is expected to strengthen cooperation in intelligence sharing, capacity building, training and the provision of equipment needed to enhance the effectiveness of Nigerian security forces in protecting lives and property.

Enikanolaiye highlighted recent security gains recorded by the country, including the prosecution and conviction of terrorists and bandits, the neutralisation of several criminal elements, and the disruption of their communication networks.

The minister also referenced the recent rescue of abducted children in Oyo State as evidence of the growing effectiveness of security operations across the country.

He attributed the progress to improved collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in intelligence gathering, personnel training, capacity development and logistics support, as well as the political will demonstrated by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The minister further disclosed that Nigeria is seeking a deeper partnership with the United States in the areas of intelligence, modern technology, security equipment and advanced training through the existing Joint Working Group on Nigeria as a Country of Concern, chaired by the National Security Adviser.

Enikanolaiye added that the evolving partnership aligns with the Tinubu administration’s 4D Foreign Policy, particularly its emphasis on demography and human security as critical pillars of national development.
