AWLA Nigeria, Oyo Branch Commends FG, Makinde, Security Agencies Over Safe Rescue of Abducted Oriire Teachers, Pupils

The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Nigeria, Oyo State Branch, has commended the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies for their concerted efforts that led to the safe return of abducted children and teachers of Oriire community in Ogbomoso.

The commendation is contained in a statement signed by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Adebimpe Alex-Ndukwe, and made available to newsmen on Monday in Ibadan.

Mrs. Alex-Ndukwe said the association was “greatly relieved and delighted” that the victims had finally regained their freedom after what she described as a traumatic ordeal in the hands of their abductors.

According to her, the safe return of the teachers and pupils has brought renewed hope and joy not only to their families and the Oriire community, but also to all well-meaning Nigerians who followed the incident with concern.

AWLA Nigeria, Oyo State Branch, also extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of security personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation.

The association described the fallen operatives as gallant men who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. It said their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and defence of the nation would remain an enduring source of inspiration.

“We pray that God grants their loved ones the strength and comfort to bear this irreparable loss,” Mrs. Alex-Ndukwe stated.

While celebrating the successful rescue, AWLA urged relevant authorities to ensure that the rescued children and their teachers receive comprehensive medical, psychological, and psychosocial support.

The association stressed that such support was critical to aid the victims’ recovery and reintegration into society after the trauma they endured during captivity.

Furthermore, AWLA called on governments at all levels to strengthen proactive security measures aimed at preventing similar incidents across the country.

“Protecting schools, communities, and vulnerable citizens must remain a national priority. Indeed, prevention is always better than cure,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its mandate, AWLA Nigeria, Oyo State Branch, pledged continued support for every effort that promotes the safety, security, and well-being of women and children in Nigeria.

The association said it would keep advocating for policies and actions that guarantee a safe learning environment and protect the rights of vulnerable groups in the state and beyond.
