BONN CONFERENCE: NIGERIA PUSHES FOR CLIMATE FINANCE, ADAPTATION

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to climate action and sustainable development at the ongoing United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) SB64 Sessions in Bonn, Germany.

During a bilateral meeting with the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, Simon Stiell, the Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, Omotenioye Majekodunmi, highlighted Nigeria’s climate priorities and progress in implementing its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0.

The discussions centred on strengthening international cooperation, improving access to climate finance, supporting adaptation initiatives and advancing climate actions capable of promoting economic growth, resilience and sustainable development.

Majekodunmi reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the effective implementation of its climate targets and stressed the need for stronger partnerships, increased investments and institutional support to achieve the country’s climate and development objectives.

She also reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to continue constructive engagement within the global climate governance framework while pursuing sustainable and inclusive development goals.
