CM Health Calls for Greater Support for Persons with Disabilities, Vulnerable Nigerians

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, says the Federal Government will strengthen partnerships to improve healthcare and support for vulnerable Nigerians, particularly persons living with disabilities.

The Minister stated this on Thursday during a visit to Karon Majigi community, Airport Road, Abuja, where he inspected the living conditions and healthcare needs of persons with disabilities, including the visually impaired, amputees, and people affected by polio and leprosy. The Minister also acknowledged the intervention of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who drew his attention to the community and its challenges.

Prof. Pate commended the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation for its efforts in restoring sight to people affected by preventable blindness, noting that some beneficiaries had undergone successful surgery and regained their vision for the first time. He said restoring a person’s sight can transform their life by enabling them to return to school, secure employment and live more independently.

The Minister also said the Federal Government would engage the FCT Administration on education and primary healthcare needs in the community, while exploring ways to expand health insurance coverage for vulnerable persons with disabilities.

Prof. Pate called on governments at all levels, the private sector, philanthropic organisations and individuals to support vulnerable Nigerians, stressing that every life counts and that no Nigerian should be left behind in the country’s efforts to improve healthcare and social welfare.
