NHRC RAISES CONCERN OVER HATE SPEECH, INCITING STATEMENTS AHEAD OF ELECTIONS
The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has raised concern over growing cases of hate speech, inflammatory statements, threats of violence and voter intimidation ahead of the forthcoming elections in Osun state and the 2027 General Election.
At a press briefing in Abuja, Executive secretary of the Commission Tony Ojukwu stressed the need for urgent action by relevant authorities to address statements capable of heightening tension and undermining peaceful participation in the electoral process.
The NHRC specifically drew attention to statements attributed to recent hate speech statements by some Nigerians urging all stakeholders to exercise restraint and promote messages that support peace, tolerance and democratic participation.
