The Commandant of the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has ordered an investigation into allegations of misconduct involving some military personnel following claims of harassment and assault by students of Osun State University in Osogbo.
In a statement signed by the Army Public Relations Officer, Major Yahaya Ibrahim, the Depot said the Commandant had directed a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The statement stressed that the Nigerian Army exists to protect all citizens, particularly young people, and maintained that no student or law-abiding citizen should be subjected to harassment, intimidation or assault by personnel entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.
It noted that any conduct inconsistent with the Army’s core values and professional standards is unacceptable and would not be condoned.
It added that any personnel found guilty of wrongdoing would face the full weight of military law.
