FG, NIDCOM Deepen Partnership to Boost Diaspora Engagement, Remittance Inflows

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) to enhance diaspora engagement, formalise remittance flows and address challenges facing Nigerians living abroad.

The minister made the pledge while receiving the Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja.

Enikanolaiye said the Ministry remains committed to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 4D Foreign Policy, which focuses on Democracy, Development, Demography and Diaspora, with development occupying a central position due to its direct impact on the welfare of Nigerians.

According to him, the administration’s development agenda is geared towards improving the lives of citizens through job creation, infrastructure development, quality healthcare, education and poverty reduction.

The minister also emphasized the need for a more structured system to track diaspora remittances and encourage transactions through formal channels, noting that such measures would improve accountability and maximise the developmental benefits of funds sent home by Nigerians abroad.

He further called for the active participation of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in diaspora-related initiatives, stressing that every state has citizens living overseas and stands to gain significantly from coordinated engagement with its diaspora community.

Enikanolaiye commended Nigerians in the diaspora for their continued contributions to national development, describing them as valuable partners in the country’s socio-economic growth.

The meeting underscored the Federal Government’s resolve to harness the expertise, investments and resources of Nigerians abroad in support of national development objectives.
