FG SETS UP COMMITTEE TO TACKLE ELECTRICITY MARKET IMPLEMENTATION CHALLENGES

The Federal Government has constituted a nine-member inter-agency committee to address bottlenecks affecting the decentralisation of the electricity market and ensure the effective implementation of the Electricity Act 2023.

The committee, which is chaired by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, is expected to drive sustained engagement among stakeholders, resolve emerging implementation challenges and support the smooth operationalisation of the Act.

The Federal Government said the move is aimed at strengthening the electricity sector and improving coordination among relevant agencies involved in the decentralised power market.

The committee has been given a four-week timeframe to engage with stakeholders and submit recommendations towards resolving identified issues.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the government to enhance efficiency, investment and accountability in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
