ICPC Arrests El-Rufai’s Doctor, Alleges Abuse of Court-Approved Medical Visit

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested the personal physician of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, Professor Bello Abubakar, over alleged false statements and issues arising from a court-approved medical visit granted to the former governor.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Commission disclosed that Professor Abubakar is currently in its custody and undergoing further investigation.
The anti-graft agency expressed concern over what it described as the abuse of a medical visit approved by the court for El-Rufai. According to the ICPC, the visit, which was meant for medical purposes, was allegedly used to facilitate a political meeting.

The Commission noted that the development contributed to El-Rufai’s absence from proceedings in his ongoing trial before the Kaduna State High Court, where he is facing allegations of fraud.
ICPC further condemned what it termed the professional misconduct of the physician and accused the former governor of allegedly using medical treatment as a cover for political activities.

The Commission stated that the incident has raised serious concerns about the abuse of professional courtesies extended to the defendant, stressing that such actions would no longer be tolerated.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State High Court has adjourned hearing on the application seeking the recusal of the trial judge until July 15, 2026.

The statement was issued by the ICPC, which maintained that it remains committed to ensuring compliance with court orders and the integrity of judicial processes.
