KWARA POLICE MOVE AGAINST UNREGISTERED, DEFACED VEHICLES
The Kwara State Police Command has announced plans to commence a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles with covered, obscured, unauthorised, defaced, altered or missing registration number plates.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation will begin on June 15, 2026, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and the State Traffic Officer to ensure full enforcement of the directive across the state.
The command warned that any vehicle found with concealed, altered or unauthorised number plates, or operating without registration plates, will be impounded and subjected to investigation in accordance with existing laws.
It stressed that there would be no exemptions or preferential treatment for any offender, regardless of status or position, adding that the law would be applied fairly and without compromise.
The police advised motorists to ensure their registration plates are valid, clearly visible and free from any form of obstruction, while also keeping vehicle documents up to date for inspection when required.
The command explained that the exercise is aimed at enhancing security, improving vehicle identification, supporting criminal investigations and preventing criminals from using unregistered or concealed vehicles to perpetrate crimes.
Residents were urged to cooperate with law enforcement officers and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
