Mosuro Family Sponsors Cataract Surgery for 60 Ijebu indigenes in Ibadan

No fewer than 60 indigenes of Ijebu-Ode have benefitted from a cataract surgery sponsored by the Mosuro family through the Mosuro Foundation.

The medical intervention took place at Makkah Specialist Hospital in Ibadan on Monday, following an earlier outreach that identified beficiaries in need of the procedure.

The Chairman of Mosuro Foundation, Dr Kolade Mosuro, who led the initiative, said the surgery was an extension of a medical outreach held in Ijebu-Ode on May 17.

“During that exercise, over 500 patients were attended to, and medical personnel discovered that between 60 and 64 of them had cataract-related conditions requiring surgical correction.

“We made very special arrangements with Makkah Specialist Hospital in Ibadan, and the affected patients from Ijebu-Ode were transported to Ibadan for this specialised treatment,” he said.

Mosuro explained that the primary objective of the initiative sponsored by the family was rooted in its long-standing philosophy of giving back to society.

He noted that the children of the family are continuing the tradition of care and support established by their parents and grandparents.

“It’s part of the philosophy of the family to give back and to help in any way we can. And so this is we, the children, doing what our parents and our grandparents did in their time,” he said.

The Foundation’s chairman disclosed that the funding for the cataract surgeries came mainly from the Mosuro family, though several organisations also supported the May 17 medical outreach.

“The earlier outreach covered general medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and laboratory services, while today’s exercise focused specifically on ophthalmology and cataract care,” he said.

Mosuro urged beneficiaries to comply strictly with post-surgery precautions to ensure quick recovery and a return to normal life.

The chairman stressed that adherence to medical advice after the procedure was critical for the success of the surgeries and the patients’ overall well-being.

He said that the family would work on expanding the outreach to cater for more people in need.

According to him, the Mosuro foundation is ready to collaborate with government agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure more people benefit from similar interventions.

A beneficiary, Mrs Abidemi Semiu, lauded the gesture of the Mosuro Foundation for its humanitarian service to the community.

“We really appreciate what the Mosuro Foundation is doing for society. This is what is expected from the well-to-do people in society; we give glory unto God and we pray for divine protection upon the family,” she said.

Also, Alhaji Adebayo Alebiosu, called on the three tiers of government to take a cue from what the Mosuro Foundation was doing to alleviate the suffering of the people.

“We thank God for what this foundation is doing for people with eye challenges; we pray that their work will continue to rise and will never come down,” he said.
