Nigeria’s New Envoy to Russia Assumes Office, Pledges Stronger Bilateral Ties
Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, Ambassador Olusola Iji, has officially assumed duty in Moscow, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding diplomatic relations with Russia.
Ambassador Iji was received on arrival by senior officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow and representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking the commencement of his diplomatic assignment in the country.
A statement signed by the Media Assistant to the Ambassador, Doyin Diya, described Ambassador Iji as a seasoned diplomat and legal practitioner with extensive experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, peace and conflict resolution, economic diplomacy and consular affairs.
Before his appointment to Russia, Ambassador Iji, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Togo, where he played key roles in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives and regional cooperation.
Speaking on his assumption of office, the envoy reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the Russian Federation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, security, education and cultural exchange.
He expressed optimism that the existing cordial relationship between both countries would continue to grow, fostering greater economic and diplomatic collaboration.
The statement noted that Ambassador Iji’s appointment is expected to further strengthen Nigeria-Russia relations and enhance engagement on strategic bilateral and multilateral issues.
