Oyo Govt Seeks Traders’ Unity, Promises Support for Business Growth

The Oyo State Government has urged traders across the state to embrace unity, peaceful coexistence and cooperation as essential ingredients for sustained economic growth and a thriving business environment.

The call was made by the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni, during a meeting with the Babaloja General-in-Council and representatives of the seven geopolitical zones of the state at her office in Ibadan.

Sanni described the visit as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the government and the trading community, noting that traders remain critical stakeholders in the state’s economic development.

She stressed the need for harmony across markets and urged market leaders to work closely with the government, emphasizing that dialogue and mutual understanding remain the best tools for resolving disputes and maintaining peace.

The commissioner also encouraged traders to channel their concerns through established leadership structures, assuring them of the ministry’s readiness to address issues affecting their businesses. She warned against misinformation and actions capable of disrupting peace in markets across the state.

According to her, the requests presented by the traders would be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde for consideration, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving traders’ welfare and supporting business expansion.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olajide Mahmud Okesade, commended the Babaloja General-in-Council for promoting unity among traders, noting that organized and peaceful markets are vital to economic growth.

Earlier, the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Abass Yekini Oladapo, appreciated the state government for its support, stating that ongoing engagements across the state had strengthened cooperation and understanding among traders in the 33 local government areas.

Representatives of the seven geopolitical zones congratulated the commissioner on her appointment and pledged continued support for government initiatives. They described the inauguration of the Babaloja General-in-Council as a significant step toward improving market leadership and coordination.

The traders also appealed to the government to provide buses for the various market zones and the office of the Babaloja General to facilitate coordination of activities across the state.
