Operation Ride Safe: FRSC Records 840 Traffic Offences In Bauchi Zone

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS12 Zonal Command, Bauchi, has successfully concluded the October edition of its three-day Zonal Special Intervention Patrol, code-named “Operation Ride Safe,” conducted from Wednesday, Oct. 21 to Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, across Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States.

The Zonal Commanding Officer, RS12HQ Bauchi, ACM Leye Adegboyega, fsi, in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, said the operation focused on curtailing Overloading/Mix-loading (OVL), Seat Belt Violations (SUV) and Use of Phone While Driving (UPD), alongside other traffic offences capable of endangering lives and contributing to road traffic crashes.

Adegboyega added that the intervention was also aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations, promoting safer transportation practices and strengthening the operational visibility of the Corps through intensive enforcement, public enlightenment and stakeholder engagement across major highways, motor parks, loading points and other strategic locations within the Zone.

“At the conclusion of the operation, the three Sector Commands recorded a combined total of 829 offenders and 840 traffic offences, with 631 cases involving the targeted focus offences.

“Specifically, RS12.1 Bauchi recorded 282 offenders and 292 offences, including 204 focus offences; RS12.2 Borno recorded 292 offenders and 293 offences, including 247 focus offences; while RS12.3 Yobe recorded 255 offenders and 255 offences, including 180 focus offences.

“The successful outcome reflects the commitment of personnel across the Zone to addressing unsafe driving practices and ensuring greater compliance with road safety regulations. The operation also reinforced the need for sustained enforcement against overloading, failure to use seat belts and the dangerous practice of using phones while driving,” he said.

The Zonal Commanding Officer commended personnel of the three Sector Commands for their commitment and operational efforts throughout the intervention.

He reiterated the Corps’ resolve to sustain targeted enforcement and public enlightenment initiatives aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries across Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States.

The Zonal Command further urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to avoid overloading, ensure the proper use of seat belts and refrain from using phones while driving.

Transport unions, fleet operators and passengers were also encouraged to support road safety initiatives and report practices that place road users at risk.

He noted that the successful conclusion of the intervention patrol aligns with the Corps’ 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal of achieving a 10 per cent reduction in road traffic crash fatalities and injuries through data-driven interventions.

The RS12 Zonal Commander appreciated the cooperation of stakeholders and members of the public and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained enforcement, public education and collaborative efforts towards safer roads.

“Road safety remains a shared responsibility, and every road user has a vital role to play in ensuring that every journey ends safely,” the FRSC boss noted.
