REPS TO SUMMON SERVICE CHIEFS, NSA, IGP OVER RISING INSECURITY

The House of Representatives has resolved to summon the nation’s Service Chiefs, the Minister of Finance, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Security Adviser over the worsening security situation in the country.

The decision followed motions of urgent public importance presented during Tuesday’s plenary session of the House.

Lawmakers expressed concern over the persistent security challenges across the country and called for more decisive measures to address the situation.

As part of the resolutions, the House advocated the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen surveillance and enhance security in forests and rural communities.

The lawmakers said the proposed recruitment would complement existing security efforts and help curb criminal activities in ungoverned spaces across the country.

The invited security and government officials are expected to brief the House on ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and measures being put in place to improve the nation’s security architecture.
