VP SHETTIMA TO REPRESENT PRESIDENT TINUBU AT BRICS SUMMIT

Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled to hold this weekend in New Delhi, India.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, says the summit will provide Nigeria with another platform to strengthen bilateral relations, expand economic cooperation and advance its strategic interests.

The statement notes that Nigeria will leverage the engagement to deepen partnerships in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, technology and innovation, while promoting stronger cooperation among countries of the Global South.

While in New Delhi, Vice President Shettima will join leaders of BRICS member and partner nations, as well as other invited dignitaries, at plenary and high-level sessions focusing on global economic growth, multilateral cooperation and shared development priorities.

The Vice President is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders and senior officials of participating countries to explore opportunities for enhanced economic and diplomatic relations with Nigeria.

Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, a development seen as opening new opportunities for the country to deepen South-South cooperation and strengthen its global economic engagement.

Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after the summit.
