YOBE POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER FAKE REVOLVER AND WOODEN GUN

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling and other organised crimes, as part of its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, arrested 19-year-old Kollo Kashim of Sabon Garin Guba in Bursari Local Government Area on July 15, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly conspired with two accomplices, identified as Modu Bayama and Ba’ani Mallah, who are currently at large, to extort herders by posing as Boko Haram insurgents.

The suspects reportedly used a wooden makeshift gun and a paper bearing Arabic inscriptions to intimidate their victims and demand illegal levies.

Police investigations indicate that the group extorted a total of ₦253,000 from four different victims.

Items recovered during the operation include a wooden makeshift gun, a paper containing Arabic inscriptions and ₦36,000 suspected to be part of the proceeds of the crime.

The Command said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits connected to the case.

In a separate operation, the VCRU arrested 22-year-old Hussaini Umar of Kahere, Kumo Local Government Area of Gombe State while allegedly in possession of a fabricated revolver gun.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to participating in a series of kidnapping and cattle rustling operations carried out by a criminal syndicate operating in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Police said the suspect has been transferred to the Plateau State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution as part of ongoing inter-state security collaboration aimed at dismantling the criminal network.

Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of crime and criminality.

He assured residents that the Police would continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
