Teacher Dies After Alleged Assault Over Pupil Discipline in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a female teacher allegedly assaulted by relatives of a pupil at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Oyiza Salihu, the incident was reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters on June 25, 2026. Preliminary findings revealed that on June 18, one Abdullahi Ishaka and two women allegedly stormed the school and assaulted a staff member, Maryam Usman, 30, for disciplining a pupil.

The police said the victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She later died on June 25 while receiving treatment.

Following the report, police operatives visited the scene and the deceased’s residence to document the incident. Arrangements are also being made to move the corpse to the General Hospital, Ankpa, for autopsy and further medical examination.

The Command disclosed that the suspects fled before the arrival of the police, adding that efforts are underway to track and arrest them. It stated that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation once the suspects are apprehended.gi
