FG MOVES NIGCOMSAT-2A and 2B TO NEXT PHASE
The Federal Government of Nigeria has advanced the acquisition of two next-generation communication satellites, NIGCOMSAT-2A and 2B, following official executive approval.
Managing Director NICOMSAT, Jane Egerton -Idehen notes that International aerospace giants Thales Alenia Space of France and Israel Aerospace Industries will manufacture the spacecraft. Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited will lead the local implementation.
The new high-throughput satellites are designed to bridge the digital divide by bringing high-speed broadband and broadcasting to hard-to-reach communities. They will boost connectivity across critical sectors like education, healthcare, and finance. The infrastructure will also provide secure communications for national defense, reducing Nigeria’s dependence on foreign networks.
