FG MOVES TO TERMINATE BENIN-ASABA ROAD CONCESSION OVER PERSISTENT GRIDLOCK
The Federal Government has directed the concessionaire handling the Benin-Asaba Road project to apply for the termination of its contract, citing persistent traffic gridlock and unsatisfactory performance on the highway.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, gave the directive during a stakeholders’ engagement held at the Government House in Benin City, Edo State.
Senator Umahi expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the road project, noting that the recurring gridlock has continued to cause hardship for commuters and negatively impact economic activities along the corridor.
The Minister also ordered the concessionaire to immediately clear all obstructions and blockages on the road to ease traffic flow and improve the movement of people and goods.
According to him, the Federal Government remains committed to ensuring that critical road infrastructure projects deliver value to Nigerians and meet the required standards of execution.
The stakeholders’ meeting provided an opportunity for government officials, project handlers and other interested parties to discuss solutions to the challenges affecting the Benin-Asaba Road and other key infrastructure projects in the region.
