NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR TO GERMANY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO PRESIDENT STEINMEIER

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Senator Ambassador Ita Solomon Enang, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at a ceremony held at the German Presidency in Berlin.

The presentation of credentials officially marks the commencement of Ambassador Enang’s diplomatic assignment as Nigeria’s representative to Germany.

The ceremony, conducted in line with diplomatic tradition, featured a military welcome parade, the signing of the accreditation register at the Presidency and the formal presentation of the Letters of Credence to President Steinmeier.

Following the ceremony, Ambassador Enang held bilateral discussions with the German President on issues of mutual interest to both countries.

According to Ambassador Enang, President Steinmeier commended the cordial relations between Nigeria and Germany and acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Tinubu in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The discussions focused on economic cooperation, energy development, agriculture, migration, technology, artificial intelligence, healthcare and skills development, with particular emphasis on creating opportunities for skilled Nigerians within the German economy through a proposed Nigeria-Germany migration agreement.

Both sides also explored prospects for deeper collaboration in the power sector, including off-grid technology solutions, Siemens power projects and investments aimed at boosting electricity generation and distribution in Nigeria.

Other issues discussed included regional security in West Africa, Nigeria’s leadership role in ECOWAS, the reintegration of Sahelian countries into regional frameworks and the promotion of peace and stability across the sub-region.

The talks further examined opportunities for German investment in Nigeria’s automobile sector through the establishment of vehicle and machinery assembly plants to facilitate technology transfer and local capacity development.

Matters relating to the Green Tree Agreement, the Bakassi Peninsula, humanitarian concerns arising from border demarcation between Nigeria and Cameroon, as well as German interest in gas utilisation projects in Nigeria, also featured during the meeting.

Ambassador Enang conveyed Nigeria’s appreciation for Germany’s humanitarian support and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic and people-to-people relations between both countries.

The audience was attended by senior officials of the German government, members of the Nigerian Mission in Berlin and members of the ambassador’s family.
