FG STRENGTHENS CHILD DEVELOPMENT THROUGH BROAD INTERVENTIONS

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to securing a better future for Nigerian children through various programmes and interventions aimed at improving their welfare, education and healthcare.

Vice President Kashim Shettima stated this while receiving a delegation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), led by its Executive Director, Ms. Catherine Russell, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Vice President said the administration of President Bola Tinubu is implementing policies and initiatives designed to restore hope and strengthen opportunities for Nigerian children despite prevailing economic and social challenges.

According to him, the government inherited significant economic and social pressures, making collaboration with trusted development partners such as UNICEF essential to achieving sustainable progress.

Shettima commended UNICEF for its longstanding support to Nigeria, describing the organisation as a dependable ally that has consistently provided expertise, compassion and practical assistance in critical sectors affecting the lives of children.

He noted that the partnership has continued to support interventions in health, education and social protection, which are key to securing the future of the nation’s younger generation.

In her remarks, UNICEF Executive Director, Ms. Catherine Russell, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s access to healthcare services and financing across the health and social protection sectors.

She said UNICEF would continue to work with the Federal Government to ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality healthcare and education.

The visit further underscored the commitment of both parties to advancing child development and improving the well-being of children across the country.
