FG Will Not Sell Any Federal Unity College, Says Education Minister
The Federal Government has ruled out the sale of any Federal Unity College, with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, dismissing reports suggesting that the institutions are being sold.
Alausa said the government, acting under the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has no intention of selling any unity college, describing contrary claims allegedly being circulated by some unions and staff of the Federal Ministry of Education as false and misleading.
The minister explained that the concession arrangement involving King’s College, Lagos, was designed to address longstanding infrastructure and management challenges, while ownership would remain with the Federal Government.
The clarification came as police took over the school premises in Onikan following days of protests, while the National President of the King’s College Old Boys Association, Ibrahim Kassim Imam, assured stakeholders that the college would not become elitist but would continue to operate in line with the principles of Federal Unity Colleges.
