Minister highlights Reforms , Progress and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education System.

Access to education, high dropout rates, inadequate infrastructure and the challenge of millions of out-of-school children remain major concerns in Nigeria’s education sector. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, notes this while leading discussion at a education summit put together by education correspondents association of Nigeria.

To address these challenges, Alausa urges education correspondents to make greater use of data from the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure Management System (NEDIMS) to hold governments and other stakeholders accountable for improving learning outcomes, teacher deployment, classroom availability and educational facilities.

The minister says the present administration’s education reforms are focused on six key areas: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), STEM education, digital transformation, reducing out-of-school children, quality assurance and strengthening education governance.

Alausa also highlights some gains recorded in the last three years, including stability in tertiary institutions, improved global rankings for Nigerian universities and the return of over one million out-of-school children to classrooms.
