POLICE NEUTRALISE TWO SUSPECTED BANDITS, ARREST MOTORCYCLE THEFT SUSPECTS
The Sokoto State Police Command says it has recorded significant successes in its sustained operations against banditry, motorcycle theft and other criminal activities across the state.
The Command says two suspected bandits were neutralised after security operatives foiled an attack on Dankadu Village in Illela Local Government Area.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, says the bandits were advancing from Tsauana Forest towards the community when operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Volunteer Constabulary and Rescue Unit, alongside other tactical teams, engaged them in a gun duel.
The statement says the bandits fled into the forest with gunshot wounds, while a subsequent clearance operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 54 rounds of live ammunition.
In a related development, the Command says its operatives have arrested suspects linked to motorcycle theft syndicates operating in parts of Sokoto metropolis.
The suspects were arrested during operations in the Kwannawa, Tamaje, Mabera and Mana areas, leading to the recovery of several stolen motorcycles and a fabricated pistol.
The statement says investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the syndicates who are still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hassan Hayatu Shaffa, commended the operatives for their professionalism, bravery and swift response.
He assured residents that the Command remains committed to combating banditry and other forms of criminality, and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious activities.

CP Shaffa also warned members of the public against buying stolen motorcycles, stressing that anyone found dealing in stolen property will face the full weight of the law.
