LOCAL GOVT AUTONOMY: BENUE GOV. CALLS FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia is urging his counterparts across states to fully implement local government autonomy, declaring that the policy has transformed governance in his state by strengthening grassroots development.
Governor Alia stated this in the state during the “meet-the-press” briefing organised by the Presidential Media Team.
The governor attested to the increase in allocation accrue to state governments as a result of various reforms embarked upon by President Bola Tinubu.
He acknowledged that the improved allocation has significantly empowered the sub-nationals, particularly his government to embark on various developmental projects including roads infrastructures, agric support programmes among others
On security, Alia warned against politicising insecurity, saying although attacks had not been completely eliminated, relative peace had returned to many parts of Benue as a result of efforts by federal and his state governments.
The governor who declared his support for local government autonomy, said implementation of the constitutional provision has brought measurable benefits to governance and service delivery in his state.
