The Katsina State Government has introduced fresh security measures restricting the sale, purchase, transportation, and storage of petroleum products in jerry cans across the state with immediate effect.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda signed the Executive Order as part of efforts to curb the diversion of fuel to criminal elements operating in remote and vulnerable communities.
According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the directive is aimed at disrupting logistics channels used by bandits and kidnappers.
The government also ordered the immediate closure of Point of Sale (POS) operators and commercial phone charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas, following intelligence reports linking such facilities to criminal support networks.
In addition, the use of motorcycles has been banned in the two local government areas to restrict the mobility of armed groups who reportedly rely on them for operations.
Governor Radda reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the top priority of his administration, assuring continued collaboration with security agencies to restore peace and stability across the state.
He urged residents to comply fully with the directives and support security agencies with credible information, warning that violators of the new measures would face the full weight of the law.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to deploying lawful and decisive measures to dismantle criminal networks and create a safer environment for socio-economic activities.
