ORANGE ECONOMY SECURITY: IGP DISU CALLS FOR STRONGER POLICING

Nigeria’s growing creative economy can do more than entertain, it can create jobs, drive investment and help keep young people away from crime.

But the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, says insecurity, piracy, cybercrime, fraud and extortion threaten the sector’s growth and the livelihoods it creates.

Speaking at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Plateau State, the IGP called for a more specialised and intelligence-led policing strategy to protect Nigeria’s Orange Economy.

He proposed an Orange Economy Security and Intellectual Property Coordination Desk within an appropriate existing structure of the Nigeria Police Force.

Disu also called for stronger collaboration between the Police, the Nigerian Copyright Commission and creative-sector stakeholders to tackle piracy, counterfeiting and criminal infringement.

He says policing the creative economy must go beyond preventing violence to creating the confidence for Nigerians to create, invest, innovate and transact.
